Sgraffito mug workshop
Create a sgraffito mug, carving unique designs for a personalised, hands-on pottery experience
Course information
This workshop is perfect for complete beginners as well as those with some prior ceramics experience. Price is per person and the number of participants can be selected at checkout. Discover the beauty of line, texture, and pattern in our hands-on ceramic sgraffito workshop. You’ll learn how to apply layers of coloured slip or underglaze to clay, then carve into the surface to reveal striking designs beneath. It’s a relaxed and creative session where you can explore this expressive decorative technique and produce a beautifully detailed ceramic piece to take home. What’s included? You’ll decorate a pre-made mug that will be prepared to the ideal leather-hard stage, ready for you to work on. You’re welcome to bring your own design ideas, or you can use the materials and inspiration provided on the day. Your finished piece will be ready to collect approximately 4–6 weeks after the workshop. During the session, you’ll also learn about the drying and firing process so you understand how your work is completed. Where can it take you? If you’d like to continue developing your skills, you can explore a variety of surface design techniques such as mono printing, glaze layering, Mishima, and more advanced sgraffito methods. There’s also the opportunity to experiment further with form and function to enhance your ceramic work.
