Learn the basics of throwing, finishing and glazing in 6 x 2 hour sessions

Course information

The 6 -part course will enable you to build on from one of our taster classes, serve as a reintroduction to ceramics from past experiences or allow you to develop a foundation knowledge as a complete beginner. Booking is made by purchasing a ‘plan’. These are private sessions but upto 3 friends can choose to do a course together by each purchasing an individual plan. Part 1. Introduction to centring and making cylinders Part 2: Practice time on the wheel Part 3: Introduction to developing shapes and forms Part 4: Introduction to handles (where appropriate) and turning vessels Part 5: Open work to complete work or practice on the wheel Part 6: Introduction to glazing: During this lesson you will glaze your final vessels ready for their final firing. Price: £300 What’s included? 6x. 2 hour classes of practical making and learning time followed by time to clean up. After buying this course we will then contact you to schedule in your 6 sessions if not chosen at checkout. All tools, equipment, materials, and firing as described below are included. You will be provided with an apron, but it is advisable that you wear clothing that you don’t mind getting muddy! You can choose THREE of your favourite pieces to be fired and glazed. Additional pieces can be glazed and fired at a cost of £10 an item, payable before the end of the course. You will be emailed when your work is ready for collection, this will be approximately 4 - 6 weeks after your last class. The process of drying and firing will be explained to you in detail at the time of your course or class. With prior arrangement and payment of delivery fees work may be sent via courier or another mailing service. Where can it take you? With further lessons, you can go on to develop your throwing skills; developing more complex vessel shapes and also learn how to turn and finish the bases of your thrown pots. If desired, you can even explore how to incorporate decoration such as underglaze, sgraffito and glaze layering to further enhance your pieces.
