Course information

Looking to try something creative? This welcoming 2-hour pottery experience is perfect for beginners or anyone curious to explore a new hobby. You’ll enjoy a mix of hand building and wheel throwing, giving you a well-rounded introduction to working with clay. Price is per person and the number of participants can be selected at checkout. Start by using the slab method to create your own hand-built mug, learning essential making techniques along with simple decorative methods such as carving and adding textured or 3D details. If time allows, you may also experiment with underglaze to enhance your design. You’ll then move on to the potter’s wheel, where you’ll be guided through centring the clay, forming a cylinder, and shaping it into a small bowl. The session includes 2 hours of hands-on making and learning, followed by time to tidy up while following good studio health and safety practices. Each step is clearly demonstrated, and you’re encouraged to ask questions throughout. All tools, materials, equipment, and firing are included. Aprons are provided, but it’s best to wear clothes you don’t mind getting a little messy. Please note that long nails or nail extensions can make wheel throwing more challenging. Participants must be aged 16 or over. Your finished pieces will be ready to collect in approximately 4–6 weeks, once they have been carefully dried, fired, and glazed. Delivery can be arranged for an additional fee if needed. As this is a detailed process, timings may vary slightly, especially in colder weather. If you’d like to continue your pottery journey, further classes can help you develop more advanced hand-building and wheel throwing skills, refine your shapes, and explore decorative glazing techniques. Please read the terms and conditions before booking. Important: Pottery wheels may not be suitable for individuals with pacemakers due to potential interference from electric motors. Please consult your doctor before attending.
