Course information

The monthly Sunday Clay club is an encouraging and supportive space for adults to build and develop hand building skills. The space offers the opportunity to develop coiling and slab building, surface design and decoration or even the use of plaster molds. Come along with your own projects and ideas or follow along to a taught session. Larger independent projects can be stored between sessions but you will need to provide a suitable plastic box to keep work leather hard. Guided projects (Subject to change): April 26th - Slab built bud Vase May 24th - Coiling for decoration - small bowl or bud vase June 21st - Ceramic bird for the garden July 19th - A village of 3 mini ceramic houses August 23rd - Ceramic pumpkins September 13th - Small decorative platter and surface design October 11th - Christmas decorations November 15th - Small ceramic wreath December 13th - Slab built mug What’s included? 2 hours of practical making, decorating and learning time followed by time to clean up and follow best H&S practice in a studio setting. Each step of the hand building journey will be explained as the lesson progresses and questions are welcomed! All tools, equipment, materials, and firing, as described below, are included. You will be provided with an apron, but it is advisable that you wear clothing that you don’t mind getting muddy! Work will be ready for collection approximately 4 weeks after your class. Clay must be bone dry to go into the kiln, the colder weather can affect drying times. The process of drying and firing will be explained at the time of your course or class. Where can it take you? Join us for other guided workshops, independent sessions or come and join us on a longer 5 part course to get to grips with the basics of hand building or wheel throwing.
