Mishima and Sgraffito workshop
An ideal session for one or to enjoy with friends.
Course information
An ideal session for one or to enjoy with friends. This 2-hour taster session will allow you to experience how to use two different surface decoration techniques: Mishima and Sgraffito. The Sgraffito technique is a traditional studio ceramic technique of carving away a top layer of clay or colour to reveal a contrasting clay body below. The Mishima technique allows you to carve pattern into the clay body, and then infill the design with coloured underglaze. What’s included? You’ll create designs on a plate and a mug after practising your design on a tile. I will prepare a plate and mug for you so that they are ready at the leather hard stage for decorating. You can bring along your own design or use the provided materials to create a design on the day. You will be emailed when your work is ready for collection, this will be approximately 4 -6 weeks after your class. The process of drying and firing will be explained to you in detail at the time of your course or class. With prior arrangement and payment of delivery fees work may be sent via courier or another mailing service. Where can it take you? With further surface design lessons, you can go on to develop a range of surface design techniques such as mono printing, glaze layering, Mishima and sgraffito designs. If desired, you can even explore how form and function can further enhance your pieces! Minimum participant age 16 years old.
