Course information

Bring friends, family, or a date and enjoy a relaxed, hands-on pottery experience together. This friendly taster session introduces the essentials of preparing clay for hand building, making it perfect for complete beginners as well as those with some experience. Price is per person and the number of participants can be selected at checkout. You’ll explore slab building to craft your own unique hand-built mug. Along the way, you’ll learn key making skills and simple decorative methods, including carving and adding three-dimensional details. The session includes 1.5 hours of guided making time, plus time to tidy up while following good studio health and safety practices. Each step is clearly explained, and questions are always welcome, so you can learn at your own pace. All tools, materials, equipment, and firing are included. Aprons are provided, but it’s best to wear clothes you don’t mind getting a little muddy. Participants must be aged 16 or over. Your finished piece will be ready to collect in around 4–6 weeks, once it has been carefully dried, fired, glazed, and fired again. Delivery can be arranged for an additional fee. As this is a detailed process, timings may vary slightly, especially in colder weather. If you’d like to continue your pottery journey, further classes can help you develop more advanced hand-building and throwing skills, refine your shapes, and explore glazing techniques. Please read the terms and conditions before booking. Important: Pottery wheels may not be suitable for individuals with pacemakers. Please consult your doctor for advice.
