Take your ceramics to the next level with our Studio Practice Course—designed to support both beginners and for those ready to move beyond guided sessions and develop their own creative voice. This course offers dedicated studio time in a supportive, inspiring environment where you can explore your own ideas, refine techniques, and build confidence working more independently. Whether you’re continuing from a beginner course or returning to ceramics after a break, you’ll have the freedom to shape your own projects while benefiting from expert guidance when you need it. Price is per person. Work at your own pace as you develop skills in hand-building or wheel throwing, experiment with surface decoration, and deepen your understanding. Start date - Thursday 21st May 2.30-5pm. We have 4 wheels in the studio and a wide range of hand building tools to help you to explore a wide range of possibilities Slab and coil building - Preparing clay (wedging and conditioning), controlling thickness and preventing cracks and warping. Rolling even coils by hand, controlling coil thickness and length. In addition coil building can be used as both a structural building or decorative method. Decorative techniques - Use of texture tools, stamps and found objects, carving and sgraffito and layered surface decoration using glazes. Wheel throwing - Wedging techniques, centring and pulling walls and developing form. What’s included? 6x. 2.5 hour classes of practical making and learning time followed by time to clean up. All materials including clay, a selection of glazes, and firing up to a height or length of 20cm. Anything over this will incur a small additional charge dependant on size. What will you need to provide? You will need to come armed with a plastic storage box to keep work in a workable condition between sessions. You will be provided with an apron, but it is advisable that you wear clothing that you don’t mind getting muddy!
