Course information

Suitable for complete beginners or those with some previous experience. Price is per person and the number of participants can be selected at checkout. Build a striking sculptural piece in this two-day ceramics workshop focused on creating your own ceramic garden stack. Over the course of the workshop, you’ll design and hand-build a series of 6 individual clay forms that will be stacked to create a unique vertical sculpture. With guidance on construction, surface decoration, and balance, you’ll explore creative ways to combine shapes, textures, and patterns, resulting in a personal and expressive ceramic stack to display in your home or garden. Day one 27th June: 10am Light refreshments and demonstration 10.30-12am Creation of base ceramic bead forms 12-1pm Lunch 1-3pm Ceramic bead and sculpture making Day two 28th June: 10am Light refreshments and setting intentions 10.30-12am Finalising sculpture making and incorporating texture 12-1pm Lunch 1-3pm Incorporating texture, carving and finishing touches To give yourself the most amount of time to make your creation it is advised that you have a look at examples on line and come with a sense of what you intend to create, sketches are encouraged! What is included? Full guidance, materials, a rebar pole for assembly and firing in addition to light refreshments. Please advise on the booking form if you have any food allergies or intolerance. You will be provided with an apron, but it is advisable that you wear clothing that you don’t mind getting muddy! You will be emailed when your work is ready for collection, this will be approximately 6-8 weeks after your class. The firing and dying process takes time and can take longer when the weather is colder; Clay must be bone dry before going in the kiln for its bisque firing to 1000 degrees and then time is taken to glaze your piece before its final firing to 1220 degrees. Each firing takes 24hrs in total before the kiln can be opened. Minimum participation age is 16 years old.
