Course information
A fun filled, teacher led children's pottery session focusing on throwing on the potters wheel. This 1 hour session will allow children to build on their fine motor skills to gain knowledge and confidence when working with clay on the wheel. What’s included? 1 hour of practical making and learning time in addition to 15 minute of prep and H&S at the start and end of the session. Students will learn how to prepare clay ready to be used on the wheel before learning the basic hand positioning to center clay. Time will be given to practicing the form of a cylinder; focusing on moving the clay, thickness of walls and height. If students continue in their wheel throwing sessions then they will begin to practice more complex forms and advancing to trimming and glazing techniques used to finish a piece. Each step of the making journey will be explained as the lesson progresses and questions are welcomed! All tools, equipment, materials, and firing, as described below, are included. You will be provided with an apron, but it is advisable that you wear clothing that you don’t mind getting muddy! Students will choose one piece to have fired and glazed. You will be emailed when work is ready for collection, this will be approximately 4 - 6 weeks after your class. With prior arrangement and payment of delivery fees work may be sent via courier or another mailing service. Where can it take you? With further lessons, students can develop a breadth of knowledge and skills such as collaring, form shaping and turning enabling them to develop more complex vessel shapes and also learn how to finish their pieces using texture and colour.
