Children's pottery club

Course information

A teacher led children's pottery club session focusing on hand building skills such as coiling, slab building and pinch pots, creating a new project each month. This 1.5 hour session will allow children to build on their fine motor skills to gain knowledge and confidence when working with clay whilst socialising with their peers. Each step of the making journey will be explained as the lesson progresses and questions are welcomed! Minimum participant age is 7 years and the maximum age 13 years old. Wheel throwing is not included in these sessions. Price is per person and the number of participants can be selected at checkout. What’s included? 1.5 hours of practical making and learning time. Glazing an item is not always an option and depends on the time needed to make, the drying stage of the clay and it's function. Where a piece is not glazed acrylic paints will be provided upon pick up. Should a student regularly attend sessions then there is sometimes the option to glaze their work in subsequent sessions. All tools, equipment, materials, and firing, as described below, are included. You will be provided with an apron, but it is advisable that you wear clothing that you don’t mind getting muddy! You will be emailed when work is ready for collection, this will be approximately 4-6 weeks after your class. Where can it take you? With further lessons, students will develop a breadth of knowledge and skills such as slab making, pinch pots and coiling enabling them to develop more complex vessel shapes and also learn how to finish their pieces using texture and colour. Students that have attended sessions regularly and therefor have a good understanding of working with clay maybe able to work more independently on student led projects.
